Tishomingo

Tishomingo County, Mississippi, a vivid swath of the Appalachians tucked in the furthest northeast corner of the state boasts Mississippi’s largest shoreline and Woodall Mountain, the tallest peak in the state. Here, magnificent history runs deep, all the way back to 7,000 B.C. when the paleo Indians were drawn to the native sandstone and clay for use in tool making.

Unique also to Tishomingo County is the sheer variety and scope of recreational opportunities. With two large lakes, seven marinas, 40 miles of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, two state parks, more than 30,000 acres of pristine and protected hunting areas and 10 parks created by the Corps of Engineers, Tishomingo more than earns its designation as the “outdoor recreation capital of the Mid-South.”

The delicious waters from Mineral Springs won the 1902 World’s Fair award for best mineral water, and today those waters still take pride of place in Mineral Springs Park in Iuka, where a pioneer cabin and covered bridge charm visitors in a beautiful setting, and the nearby Old Courthouse Museum offers a fascinating tour through the area’s past.
