Chickasaw County, named after the Chickasaw tribe, is located in Northeast Mississippi with the Natchez Trace Parkway crossing the county from east to west. The county’s small towns of Woodland, Houston, and Okolona offer outdoor recreation, food, off-road ATV trails, horseback riding, and lots of history.

Established in 1836, the town of Houston was named after Sam Houston – the same one who fought in the Texas Revolution. Constructed in 1909, you can visit the 1st Carnegie Library in Mississippi.

Okolona is named after Chickasaw warrior, Oka-laua, and is on the Northwest side of the County. Home to many Civil Rights battles and beautiful homes, it holds the second Carnegie Library which was constructed five years after the first.

Woodland, known as “The Little Town that Can,”  hosts projects, events, and celebrations throughout the year. It has even been awarded the Mississippi Municipal League’s Excellence Award in the City Spirit Category. Visit during Christmas time as the town turns into a Christmas wonderland!

The town of Woodland is full of recreational activities just like the rest of Chickasaw County. Just four miles west of the Natchez Trace Parkway, you can visit the 201-acre Davis Lake. The county is also the owner of the Chickasaw Wildlife Management Area. The Tombigbee National Forest is an untouched 28,000 acres that is full of outdoor activities.

Many events are happening in Chickasaw County. Watch rodeos, horse shows, or 4-H events at the Chickasaw County Coliseum. The bi-annual Houston Flywheel Festival, held in April and September, attracts 20,000 visitors annually from all over the country. See antique tractors and engines and immerse yourself in the local arts and crafts. Find one-of-a-kind vintage items and taste a variety of food from local vendors and farmers while enjoying live entertainment.
