Flat Stanley: Make Your Own Character to Travel the Natchez Trace!

Do your children or students love the Natchez Trace? Encourage them to be creative on your next family trip  along the Parkway, or for your next classroom activity! Children can use their imagination and bring along their very own Flat Stanley character.

The basic principle of The Flat Stanley Project is to connect your child, student or classroom with other children or classrooms participating in the project by sending out “flat” visitors, created by the children, through the mail. Kids then talk about, track, and write about their flat character’s journey and adventures. Writing and learning becomes fun and more creative. Kids are inspired to write of their own passion and excitement about the project, and are given the freedom to write about many things, such as the Natchez Trace Parkway!

There is so much history along the Natchez Trace–this project allows children to engage in a fun learning experience. There are also many different types of Flat Stanley characters that your child or student can create. Let your child use their imagination on what type of character they want, and where on the Natchez Trace they want to travel. They can choose any community from Natchez to Nashville! It’s a great way for kids to learn about geography and history while using their own imagination.
