Natchez Trace Parkway Traffic Rerouted at Northern Terminus

Natchez Trace Parkway officials announce that the exit ramp from the Parkway to TN 100 East will be closed and traffic will be rerouted to McCrory Lane. Safety concerns have arisen due to motorists exiting via this ramp directly onto TN 100 East and then making unsafe left turns to access businesses. 888.204.6170

Portions of the Natchez Trace Parkway Impassable

The Natchez Trace Parkway is closed to all traffic from Mississippi Highway 8, near mile marker 230, north to the Alabama state line. The Parkway is currently experiencing dangerous and impassable road conditions from Hwy 8 north to the Alabama state line. Rangers report that dozens of vehicles are stuck or have gone off the roadway due to the hazardous conditions. The Parkway should not be considered as an alternate route to state roadways.

As a result of winter weather conditions, the Natchez Trace Parkway has issued a travel advisory from Hwy 8 near Houston, MS to the northern terminus near Nashville, TN.

The Natchez Trace Parkway Recognizes Volunteers in Parks and Very Important People

TUPELO, MS: The Natchez Trace Parkway Volunteers-In-Parks (VIP) program has recently been redesigned in an effort to reach the Centennial goal of one million additional volunteers for the National Park Service. With funding provided through the Southeast Region Special VIP program, the park hosted several volunteer events, including a Volunteer Fair in Ridgeland, MS to increase awareness of VIP opportunities.

December Visitation Numbers for Natchez Trace Parkway is Released

The Natchez Trace Parkway experienced a significant increase in December recreational visits in 2014 over 2013 figures,” stated Superintendent Mary Risser. “This year, 688,064 people used the Parkway in November compared to 478,080 who were counted in 2013.

More than 16,000 Trees Planted Along the Natchez Trace Parkway

The Natchez Trace Parkway is home to more than 16,000 brand new tree seedlings, planted near the new intersection of Highway 6 and Parkway milepost 257. “When the new roadway came through, some forest was removed,” said Dr. Lisa McInnis, Chief of Resource Management. “This project will restore some of that forested habitat, and provide for scenic protection going into the future.”
