Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail Closure near Chickasaw Village Site (milepost 261.8, Lee County, MS) along the Natchez Trace Parkway

Tupelo, Mississippi: The hiking and walking trail north of the Chickasaw Village Site (milepost 261.8) is closed until further notice. The impassable section of trail will be marked with flagging at the beginning and end of the affected area. This closure is necessary to repair a trail bridge damaged by a fallen tree.

Natchez Trace Parkway Reopens Parkway in Adams, Jefferson, Claiborne, Hinds, Madison, & Leake Counties in Mississippi

TUPELO, MS: The Natchez Trace Parkway has reopened the closed sections of the Parkway motor road previously closed due to Tropical Storm “Isaac,” and the Parkway is open from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee. An existing detour in the Jackson, MS, area due to road construction remains in effect between US Highway 49 at milepost 92.9 and I-55 at milepost 101.1.

Tupelo, MS: Effective immediately, the Natchez Trace Parkway has closed the Parkway motor road between the southern terminus at Liberty Road in Natchez, Mississippi, and milepost 8.5 at Highway 61, near Washington, Mississippi. The closure is necessary due to the possibility of heavy rains and winds forecasted for the storm “Isaac.”

Natchez Trace Parkway Closes Mount Locust Site at Milepost 15.5 – Jefferson County, MS

Tupelo, MS: The Natchez Trace Parkway will close the Mount Locust Site immediately, Tuesday, August 28, 2012. The closure is necessary to prepare for the heavy rains and winds forecasted for the storm “Isaac.” The duration of the closure is undetermined at this time, but the Parkway will work to reopen the area as soon as possible.

Natchez Trace Parkway Closes Rocky Springs Site at Milepost 54.8 – Claiborne County, MS

The Natchez Trace Parkway will close the Rocky Springs Site at noon, Tuesday, August 28, 2012. The closure is necessary to prepare for the heavy rains and winds forecasted for the storm “Isaac.” Travelers are also advised to avoid using the Parkway in southern Mississippi during the storm and in the aftermath, due to the possibilities of falling trees and other obstructions.

Tupelo Honors Elvis with Statue

TUPELO, Miss. – On Thursday, August 9, 2012, Tupelo unveiled a larger-than-life statue to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Elvis’ death. Hundreds of fans gathered in the Tupelo Fairpark District, former site of the Tupelo fairgrounds where Elvis performed the famous homecoming concert in September of 1956, to see the statue unveiled.
