Tupelo, MS:  The Natchez Trace Parkway will close the Mount Locust Site immediately,  Tuesday, August 28, 2012. The closure is necessary to prepare for the heavy  rains  and  winds forecasted for the storm “Isaac.” The duration  of the closure is undetermined at this time, but the Parkway will work to reopen the area as soon as possible.

Travelers are advised to avoid using the Parkway in southern Mississippi during  the storm and in the aftermath, due to the possibilities of falling trees and  other  obstructions.  Remember, also, that cellular coverage is limited to non-existent on certain sections of the Parkway.

Although the motor road remains open at this time, the Natchez Trace Parkway may experience additional closures due to the above conditions. We will keep the public informed of closures and detours thorough further advisories as needed.

Current  weather  information  is  available  through  your local radio and television stations.
