CHICKASAW COUNTY, MS– Natchez Trace Parkway officials will implement a temporary closure of the motor road between mileposts 230.5 and 239.2 (near Houston, MS) starting Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 7:30 am. The closure will allow for pavement repair on a nearby bridge at milepost 236 on the Natchez Trace Parkway. During the approximate two-day closure, there will be no access to Witch Dance at milepost 233.
A recommended detour around this closed section of the Natchez Trace Parkway is as follows:
· Northbound traffic should exit the Natchez Trace Parkway at Milepost 230.5 onto MS Hwy 8; travel west (left) to MS Hwy 15, then north (right) to MS Hwy 32, then east on MS Hwy 32 to the Parkway.
· Southbound traffic should exit the Natchez Trace Parkway near Milepost 239.6 onto MS Hwy 32; travel west (left) to MS Hwy 15, then south (left) to MS Hwy 8, then west (left) on MS Hwy 8 to the Parkway.
This detour will not be signed and will remain in effect until the repair is complete. The detour route will add approximately nine miles to the normal driving distance.
Bicyclists will be permitted to continue to use the Parkway but should watch for construction traffic and take extra precautions in the construction area. Bicyclists should always wear high-visibility clothing and ensure that bicycles have appropriate front and rear lights.
Visitors should access the park’s Facebook page for the most recent updates at www.Facebook.com/NatchezTraceParkwayNPS.
