Retirees do not pay state income tax on retirement income. Social security income is not taxed, regardless of total income. Qualified retirement income includes IRA’s, 401/403’s, Keogh’s, public and private pension funds, and interest income from federal securities and obligations of the State of Mississippi and its political subdivisions. The park offers 13 miles of nature and hiking trails in and around Bear Creek Canyon, Mississippi’s only rock canyon. Float trips on Bear Creek are available from April until mid-October. Rocky shoals, lush vegetation, flowering shrubs and trees, and the fall color season make this one of the most popular canoe streams in Mississippi. Rental canoes, paddles, life jackets, and transportation are available at Tishomingo State Park. Bear Creek is a designated Scenic Stream.

Tishomingo State Park is famous for its swinging bridge dating from the 1930’s. The native stone and steel cable bridge crosses high above Bear Creek and is the entrance to a system of hiking trails along the creek and along the top of canyon walls.
