Rainwater Observatory in French Camp, Mississippi will be offering a free public viewing of the“Transit of the Planet Venus” on June 5, beginning at 5:00pm. This is a rare astronomical event in which the planet Venus passes directly between the Earth and Sun. It will appear as a small black disk moving slowly across the face of the Sun. The event will not happen again until the year 2117.
To celebrate we are providing an opportunity to safely view the transit through some of our telescopes and learn about its significance. The viewing will take place until the sun sets at approximately 8:00pm. The event will be cancelled if cloudyRemember to never look directly at the Sun!
