We’re thrilled to announce that Canton, Mississippi is officially our newest NTC member, and if you haven’t been, this is your sign to go.

Tucked into the heart of the Magnolia State, Canton is the kind of place that surprises you. It’s small enough to feel personal, but layered enough to keep you busy for days. From a courthouse square that’s been the center of community life since the 1800s to a Civil Rights legacy that helped reshape the nation, Canton carries its history with both pride and purpose.

A Tradition Worth Showing Up For

Twice a year, Canton’s courthouse square becomes one of the South’s most anticipated gatherings. The Canton Flea Market Arts & Crafts Show is a tradition that draws up to 100,000 visitors, artists, collectors, and curious travelers who come for the finds and stay for the atmosphere. If your visit lines up with market weekend, consider yourself lucky.

Where History Demands Your Attention

Canton’s role in the Civil Rights Movement is not a footnote, it’s a chapter. The Canton Freedom House Civil Rights Museum is the only CORE Freedom House still standing in Mississippi. Martin Luther King Jr. walked through its doors. Annie Devine organized from within its walls, helping launch the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party in 1964 and setting the stage for the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This is living history, and it’s open to visitors.

Five feature films have been shot on Canton’s streets, including A Time to Kill, My Dog Skip, and O Brother, Where Art Thou? The town’s timeless squares and storefronts have a way of looking exactly like America is supposed to look, which is exactly why Hollywood keeps coming back.
