Milepost 385.9-Meriwether Lewis Monument located near the spot he stayed in 1809. The state of Tennessee erected a monument over the grave site of Meriwether Lewis in 1848 to commemorate his life. The design is a broken column to represent a life cut short. In 1925, President Coolidge established the Meriwether Lewis National Monument. When the Natchez Trace Parkway was established in 1938, it became a key component of the Parkway.
