Just about everyone that comes to Natchez asks the question, “where can we get some real southern cooking?”  One of the most common answers is, “The Cock-of-the-Walk”.  The restaurant serves up fried just about everything, but the house specialty is fried catfish.  The catfish is farm raised, most likely in the Mississippi Delta, and you can get a whole platter of it mixed with fries and cornbread hushpuppies that you probably won’t be able to finish.  When your waiter brings your cornbread out of the kitchen, it’s going to arrive in the skillet in which it was cooked so you know it’s piping hot.  They are highly skilled professionals too, in that before they divide your cornbread into servable portions, they want to show off how they can flip it into the air and catch it in the skillet again.  It’s truly an amazing feat, and once you finally get to dig in, you’ll be licking your lips at how good it is.

The Cock-of-the-Walk is located in the old passenger train station on the bluff, and is within walking distance of downtown hotels and b&b’s.  If you want to know how the restaurant got it’s name, well you’ll just have to go there and read all about it on your placemat.
