TUPELO, MS – Rangers along the Natchez Trace Parkway will begin intensified enforcement for the Labor Day weekend starting on Thursday, August 30 and continuing until September 3, 2018. In conjunction with the National Park Service Traffic Safety Coalition, rangers will continue to focus on dates with increased traffic deaths.

Anticipating heavy traffic, rangers will use saturation patrols to combat speeding, seatbelt violations, and distracted driving. Traffic safety checkpoints will be used to target impaired and unlicensed drivers. The goal of the operation is to provide a deterrent effect and arrest drivers for these and other traffic offenses.

“We encourage drivers to focus on the road and ignore cell phones and other distractions in their vehicle. Designated drivers allow everyone to enjoy the weekend safely” stated District Ranger John Hearne.
