CHEROKEE, AL:  Natchez Trace Parkway officials announce that repairs on the bridge over the Tennessee River near Cherokee, Alabama requires the closure of the bridge during part of the day on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. The closure should not exceed two hours.  A steel joint in the surface of the bridge will be replaced.

Since the duration of the closure is planned to be very limited, detour signage will not be installed.  During the closure, for southbound travelers, the contractor will have a flag person posted north of the bridge at the intersection with Lauderdale County Road 2 (milepost 329).  All motorists will be stopped, provided with a map, and directions to help them navigate the detour route. For northbound travelers, the flag person will be posted at Colbert Ferry (milepost 327.4), and information about the detour route will also be provided.

Motorists should be aware that the length of the detour is approximately 47 miles and the additional travel time will exceed one hour.

Parkway visitors are encouraged to use caution due to construction traffic around the work area.
