TUPELO, MS: Thursday’s winter storm will spread both snow and rain across the Southeast, continuing into Thursday night and early Friday, and a winter weather advisory remains in effect for significant portions of Mississippi. Light snow accumulations are expected to result in hazardous driving conditions in parts of Mississippi and northern Alabama. On the Natchez Trace Parkway, patchy ice is present on some bridges between MS Highway 32 near milepost 239, south to Interstate 20 near milepost 87, with up to 3 inches of snow between US Highway 82 and Interstate 55. South of Interstate 20, Parkway rangers report slushy conditions on bridges.

The current weather conditions can become extremely dangerous for those traveling in automobiles, and especially for those driving recreational vehicles or towing non-commercial items such as boats, trailers, or other types of transportation. Travelers are asked to use extra caution.

All visitors should be vigilant and continue to monitor the radio for further guidance. In addition, motorists are reminded that cellular coverage is limited to non-existent on certain sections of the Parkway.

For up-to-date Parkway roadway conditions, call (662) 680-4027 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. or evenings at (662) 680-4000. In the event of an emergency on the Natchez Trace Parkway, contact 911.
