Buffalo Canoeing & Campground

With traditional Christian values and an alcohol free campground, if your church group, youth group, Scout troop or other organization is interested in a safe, family oriented location to experience the joys of canoeing and camping the Buffalo River, then Buffalo Canoeing & Campground is the place for you.  Offering canoeing, kayaking and tubing adventures on the Class I and Class II river.

The campground is located at the end of a hidden valley, bordered on one side by the beautiful Buffalo River, and along the other side flows a quiet stream that children love to play in.  Each campsite is on the river, in shade with tables, charcoal grills and firepits.

Facilities for groups from 2 to 200.  A bathhouse with restrooms and hot showers and a small camp store with snacks, drinks, ice and firewood for sale.  We support and practice “Leave No Trace” wilderness ethics.

HohenwaldMunicipalGolfCourseThe City of Hohenwald operates the Hohenwald Municipal Golf Course, 829 Columbia Hwy.  Located on US Hwy 412 on the east side of Hohenwald, it is a beautifully maintained 9-hole course that lies on 58 acres, par 72, open year round.  The greens boast champion bermuda grass with the fairways in bermuda with fescue rough.  The facilities include a club house with a snack bar and rental clubs.  Rental carts are also available.  Players come from a wide area to play the course. An Amish and Mennonite community is located just 5 minutes east of the Meriwether Lewis Monument and Gravesite area along the Natchez Trace Parkway. Exit the Trace onto TN Hwy 20, and turn left. Yoder’s Homestead Market, located in the community at 3555 Summertown Hwy, is family owned and operated, selling home-style sandwiches, cheese, and deli meats. MeriwetherLewisMonumentAlong the Natchez Trace Parkway at milepost 385.9 is the Meriwether Lewis Monument and Gravesite.  Meriwether Lewis, Captain of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, is buried here beneath the monument at Pioneer Cemetery.  Take time to stroll along the various trails and visit the information station located in a 1930s cabin.  The cabin is located near the site of Grinder’s Stand where Lewis died a mysterious death.  Was it murder or suicide?

DevilsBackboneDevil’s Backbone State Natural Area is at milepost 394 along the Natchez Trace Parkway.  This hiking trail begins at the pavement of the Natchez Trace Parkway, goes out along the ridges of Tennessee’s Highland Rim, down along a creek, and back again.  The trail is a moderately strenuous loop with 200 feet of elevation change that is about 3 miles long.

The Strand Theatre

Restored in 2007 and located at 100 East Main Street, the Strand Theatre Hohenwald features live music, plays and more throughout the year. The original structure was built in 1939 and is listed as an official city landmark in Hohenwald, Tennessee.

Live productions featuring local talent keep audiences coming back for more. Each year, the Strand Theatre Hohenwald welcomes musical guests including Music City Swing, members of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, a traveling Nashville Children’s Opera and a variety of musicians with shows that bring the audience to their feet.

Summer camps teach our youngest music, drama and art culminating in sell out shows for parents, family, friends and supporters of the arts in Hohenwald.

Artwork at the Strand Art Gallery includes work by members of the Meriwether Lewis Artist Group and guest artists. Local, regional and national artists display artwork in the Strand Art Gallery.
