The Fourth of July is a time to celebrate our country’s independence, and while you are traveling the Natchez Trace Parkway to visit your loved ones, enjoy a barbecue, shoot fireworks, take a boat ride or attend a parade, don’t forget to take in all the beauty along the Parkway.
For a visit to a byway rich in history, drive the Natchez Trace Parkway, established to commemorate the historical significance of the Old Natchez Trace. Originally a primitive trail that stretched 500 miles through the wilderness from Natchez, Mississippi, to Nashville, Tennessee, throughout the years it has gained a rich history that continues to fascinate visitors who travel in the footsteps of those who’ve gone before.
The Americana Music Triangle is the birthplace of nine genres of roots music: Blues, Jazz, Country, Rock and Roll, Rockabilly, Bluegrass, Cajun, Zydeco and Gospel. Together, these genres represent America’s greatest cultural contribution to the world.

TUPELO, MS – The Natchez Trace Parkway will celebrate 75 years as a national park on Saturday, May 18, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The free, family-oriented event will feature live music, dozens of exhibitors and historical personas, dignitaries, children’s activities, classic cars and much more. Festivities will be held at the Parkway Visitor Center, located just north of Tupelo on the Natchez Trace Parkway at milepost 266.
Join the Natchez Trace Parkway Association as they “educate the next generation” about the War of 1812 and Andrew Jackson’s courageous struggle to return the young Tennessee Militia to their homes. For this he earned the title “Old Hickory”.
The Natchez Trace Parkway is the ultimate motorcycle route. It’s 444 miles from Natchez, MS to Nashville, TN through beautiful scenery, curvy roads, history, interesting stops, minimal traffic, places to stay and good restaurants.
The Mississippi Hills National Heritage Area and the Natchez Trace Parkway have partnered on the installation of welcome signage at the northern and southern boundaries of the heritage area along the parkway.
The Tombigbee Pioneer Group will perform living history demonstrations that show the challenges faced and creative solutions developed by those Americans who lived in the area from the 1700s to 1840. The demonstrations will take place at the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center (located at milepost 266 near Tupelo, Mississippi) from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013.
